Target Information
Kallikreins are a subgroup of serine proteases with diverse physiological functions. Many kallikreins are implicated in carcinogenesis and have potential as novel cancer and disease biomarkers.
The KLK7 gene, one of fifteen kallikrein subfamily members located on chromosome 19, encodes an enzyme involved in proteolysis of intercellular cohesive structures preceding desquamation (the shedding of the outermost epidermal layer).
Alternative splicing results in two transcript variants encoding the same protein.
