Target Information
Kallikreins are a subgroup of serine proteases with diverse physiological functions. Many kallikreins are implicated in carcinogenesis and have potential as biomarkers for cancer and other diseases. The KLK7 gene is one of fifteen kallikrein subfamily members located in a cluster on chromosome 19. The encoded enzyme is thought to be involved in the proteolysis of intercellular cohesive structures preceding desquamation, the shedding of the outermost epidermal layer. Alternative splicing results in two transcript variants encoding the same protein.
