CRP (C-reactive protein)는 간에서 생성되는 주요 급성기 단백질로, 5개의 동일한 비당화 소단위체로 구성된 펜타머 구조를 가집니다. 각 소단위체는 206개의 아미노산으로 이루어져 있으며 분자량은 약 24 kDa입니다.
CRP는 염증, 감염, 손상에 반응하여 혈장 농도가 100~1000배 증가합니다. 이는 고전적 보체 경로의 개시자이자 단핵구/대식세포 활성화 인자로 작용하며, 염증 반응 및 선천 면역에 중요한 역할을 합니다. 또한, CRP는 크로마틴, 히스톤, snRNP 등과 결합하여 세포 괴사 시의 청소 작용에도 관여합니다.
기초 CRP 수치가 높은 환자는 고혈압 및 심혈관 질환의 위험이 증가하는 것으로 보고되었습니다.
