This antibody recognizes an extracellular epitope of CD279 / PD-1 (programmed cell death 1), a 55 kDa type I transmembrane protein expressed primarily during T cell development, on activated T cells, activated B cells, and activated monocytes.
Functional Application: Blocking

Target Information

Cell-mediated immune responses are initiated by T lymphocytes that are stimulated by peptides bound to MHC molecules on antigen-presenting cells (APCs). Activated T cells express receptors such as PD-1 (also known as PDCD-1) that deliver inhibitory signals upon ligand binding (PDL-1 or PDL-2).
PD-1 signaling inhibits immune activation in the absence of danger signals such as LPS. PD-1-deficient mice show hyperactivated immune systems and autoimmune diseases. Despite its predicted molecular weight, PD-1 often migrates at a higher molecular weight in SDS-PAGE.
