MC1R (Melanocortin Receptor)는 melanocyte-stimulating hormone (MSH) 및 adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH)의 작용을 매개합니다. MSH와 MC1R은 멜라닌 생성의 주요 조절자로서, 피부 내 적색 pheomelanin과 흑색 eumelanin의 비율을 조절합니다. 기능이 없는 수용체는 밝은 털색을, 활성화된 수용체는 어두운 색을 나타냅니다.
