Target Information
Coagulation factor V (Proaccelerin) is an essential component of the blood coagulation cascade. It circulates in plasma and is activated by thrombin, generating a heavy and light chain held together by calcium ions. Active Factor V acts as a cofactor with activated factor X to convert prothrombin into thrombin.
Defects in the Factor V gene can lead to disorders such as Factor V deficiency, thrombophilia due to activated protein C resistance, Budd-Chiari syndrome, ischemic stroke, and recurrent pregnancy loss.
