Target Information

IGF1 (Insulin-like growth factor-1) is structurally and functionally related to insulin but exhibits higher growth-promoting activity. It induces cell proliferation, differentiation, migration, and survival. IGF1 stimulates glucose transport in osteoblastic cells and enhances glycogen and DNA synthesis more effectively than insulin. In circulation, IGFs are bound to IGFBPs, which extend their half-life and aid tissue targeting. IGF-I is a potent activator of the AKT signaling pathway, promoting proliferation and inhibiting apoptosis. Mature human IGF-I is homologous with bovine and porcine proteins. Low IGF1 levels are associated with Alzheimer’s disease. IGF1 is processed from a precursor, binds to a specific receptor, and is secreted. Mutations in the IGF1 gene can lead to insulin-like growth factor 1 deficiency, with multiple transcript variants identified.
