Target Information
A number of cytokines in the interleukin (IL)-17 family, including IL-17B, IL-17C, and IL-17E, have been identified. IL-17 is a potent proinflammatory cytokine involved in diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, and tumor progression. IL-17B, C, and E can induce proinflammatory responses but do not bind to the IL-17 receptor, suggesting additional IL-17R-related receptors exist. The receptor for IL-17B and IL-17E has been identified as EV127 (mouse) and IL-17Rh1 (human). IL-17E activates the NF-kB pathway and induces IL-8 production. IL-17Rh1 mRNA is highly expressed in kidney and liver, with moderate expression in small intestine, colon, and brain.
