The PTGES2 gene encodes prostaglandin E synthase 2 (PTGES2), an enzyme essential for the biosynthesis of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) from arachidonic acid. It functions downstream of the cyclooxygenase (COX) pathway, interacting with COX-1 and COX-2. PTGES2 contributes to inflammation, fever, and pain responses and is a membrane-associated protein. Its distinct regulatory properties help fine-tune PGE2 levels, influencing immune and vascular signaling.
