Target Information
Casein kinase I (CKI) and casein kinase II (CKII) are families of serine/threonine protein kinases found in all eukaryotes.
CKI family members (alpha, gamma, epsilon, delta) are involved in regulating cytoplasmic and nuclear processes such as DNA replication and repair.
CKII typically exists as a tetrameric complex (alpha2 beta2 or alpha alpha' beta2), where the alpha catalytic subunit is activated by the beta regulatory subunit, which undergoes autophosphorylation.
CKII activity is high in proliferating and differentiating cells and phosphorylates over 100 substrates including nuclear oncoproteins, transcription factors, and DNA metabolism enzymes.
