Target Information
Fructose-1,6-bisphosphate aldolase is a tetrameric glycolytic enzyme that catalyzes the reversible conversion of fructose-1,6-bisphosphate to glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate and dihydroxyacetone phosphate.
Vertebrates possess three aldolase isozymes (A, B, and C) distinguished by their electrophoretic and catalytic properties.
- Aldolase A: Expressed in developing embryos and adult muscle.
- Aldolase B: Expressed in adult liver, kidney, and intestine.
- Aldolase C: Expressed in brain and nervous tissue.
Defects in the ALDOB gene cause hereditary fructose intolerance.
