Monoclonal antibody FA6-152 blocks the biological activity of CD36 by inhibiting collagen/thrombospondin binding. This antibody agglutinates fetal but not adult erythrocytes.
Target Information
CD36, also known as scavenger receptor class B member 3, is a membrane protein expressed on macrophages, platelets, and adipocytes. It is involved in lipid metabolism, inflammation, and atherosclerosis, recognizing ligands such as oxidized LDL, long-chain fatty acids, and apoptotic cells. CD36 functions as a thrombospondin receptor and mediates cytoadherence of Plasmodium falciparum-infected erythrocytes. Mutations in CD36 cause platelet glycoprotein deficiency, and alternative splicing variants are known. Diseases associated include Platelet Glycoprotein IV Deficiency and Coronary Heart Disease 7.
