Product Specific Information
Monoclonal antibody FA6-152 blocks the biological activity of CD36 by inhibiting collagen/thrombospondin binding. The antibody agglutinates fetal but not adult erythrocytes.
Target Information
CD36, also known as scavenger receptor class B member 3, is a membrane protein expressed on macrophages, platelets, and adipocytes. It plays key roles in lipid metabolism, inflammation, and atherosclerosis. CD36 binds oxidized LDL, long-chain fatty acids, and apoptotic cells, and is involved in malaria pathogenesis. The protein serves as a receptor for thrombospondin and collagen, mediating cytoadherence of Plasmodium falciparum-infected erythrocytes. Mutations in this gene cause platelet glycoprotein deficiency. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants exist.
