HSPB1 (heat shock protein beta-1, also known as HSP27) is a small heat shock protein functioning as a molecular chaperone, maintaining denatured proteins in a folding-competent state.
It plays roles in stress resistance and actin organization, and regulates phosphorylation and axonal transport of neurofilament proteins.
Mutations in the HSPB1 gene are associated with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease 2F and distal hereditary motor neuronopathy type 2B.
