Target Information
Myosin phosphatase target subunit 1 (MYPT1), also known as the myosin-binding subunit of myosin phosphatase, is one of the subunits of myosin phosphatase.
This enzyme regulates the interaction of actin and myosin downstream of the guanosine triphosphatase Rho.
Activated RhoA (GTP·RhoA) interacts with the myosin-binding subunit (MBS) of myosin phosphatase, affecting phosphorylation of myosin light chain (MLC).
Rho-associated kinase (Rho-kinase), activated by GTP·RhoA, phosphorylates MBS and inactivates myosin phosphatase, thereby influencing smooth muscle contraction and actin-myosin interactions in nonmuscle cells.
Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified for this gene.
