Target Information
BNC1 is a 994 amino acid transcription factor specific for squamous epithelium and keratinocytes at early stages of terminal differentiation. It is a zinc finger protein with three separated pairs of zinc fingers and a nuclear localization signal. BNC1 can shuttle between the nucleus and cytoplasm, depending on cell proliferative potential. It is expressed in basal epidermal cells, hair follicles, and germ cells of testis and ovary, with lower expression in thymus, spleen, mammary glands, placenta, brain, and heart. Reports suggest a regulatory role in keratinocyte proliferation and rRNA transcription, as well as roles in spermatozoa and oocyte differentiation.
