This product is preservative-free. It is recommended to add sodium azide (final concentration 0.05%–0.1%) to prevent contamination.
This antibody is specific for Human Calponin (CNN1).
Target Information
Calponin is a thin filament-associated protein involved in the regulation and modulation of smooth muscle contraction. It binds to actin, calmodulin, troponin C, and tropomyosin. Calponin is expressed in smooth muscle and tissues containing significant amounts of smooth muscle.
Two isoforms exist (34 kDa and 29 kDa). The 29 kDa form is primarily expressed in urogenital tract muscle.
Calponin expression has been observed in myoepithelial cells from benign and malignant breast lesions. It stains smooth muscle, myoepithelial cells, myofibroblasts, keratinocytes, and nerve fibers.
It is useful in identifying myoepithelial cells in breast lesions and differentiating breast collagenous spherulosis (positive) from adenoid cystic carcinoma. Adenoid cystic carcinoma in salivary gland tumors is also calponin positive.
