Target Information

CAMK2A (CaMKII alpha) is a serine/threonine kinase that regulates various cellular functions, including neuronal processes, gene expression, carbohydrate metabolism, cytoskeletal function, and calcium homeostasis.
Autophosphorylation of threonine 286 in the presence of Ca²⁺ and calmodulin activates CAMK2A, enabling calmodulin-independent activity.
CaMKII is ubiquitously expressed and involved in cell cycle regulation, transcription, dendritic spine formation, neuronal plasticity, and sarcoplasmic reticulum Ca²⁺ transport in skeletal muscle.
In neurons, it plays a structural role in actin cytoskeleton reorganization during plasticity by binding and bundling actin filaments in a kinase-independent manner.
