Target Information
Golgi apparatus participates in glycosylation and transport of proteins and lipids in the secretory pathway. It consists of stacked cisternae and interacts with microtubules, which are important for Golgi reorganization during mitosis.
GOLGA5 encodes a member of the golgin family, localizing to the Golgi and functioning as a coiled-coil membrane protein involved in vesicle tethering and docking.
Translocations involving this gene and the RET proto-oncogene have been found in tumor tissues; the chimeric sequences are designated RET-II and PTC5.
