Target Information

Oncogene ERBB4 (HER4) is a member of the type I receptor protein tyrosine kinase subfamily that includes EGFR, ERBB2, and ERBB3.
ERBB4 binds and is activated by neuregulins and other factors, inducing various cellular responses such as mitogenesis and differentiation.
It acts as a receptor for heregulin and mediates HGL-stimulated tyrosine phosphorylation.

ErbB4 regulates key cellular processes including:

  • Cellular metabolism
  • Transcription
  • Cell cycle progression
  • Cytoskeletal rearrangement and movement
  • Apoptosis and differentiation

Expression:
Highly expressed in several breast carcinoma cell lines (T47-D, MDA-MB-453, BT-474, H3396), and in normal skeletal muscle, heart, pituitary, brain, and cerebellum.
Intermediate expression in MCF-7, MDA-MB-330, MDA-MB-361; low or absent in MDA-MB-231, MDA-MB-157, MDA-MB-468, and SKBR-3.
Elevated ErbB4 levels have been found in certain human tumor cell lines, suggesting a role in malignancy.
