Target Information
The WNT gene family encodes secreted signaling proteins involved in oncogenesis and developmental processes such as cell fate regulation and embryonic patterning.
WNT4 is the first signaling molecule identified to influence the sex-determination cascade, showing 98% amino acid identity with mouse and rat Wnt4 proteins. It cooperates with nuclear receptors to regulate female development and inhibit testis formation.
WNT4, along with WNT2 and WNT7B, may be associated with abnormal proliferation in breast tissue. Mutations in WNT4 can lead to Rokitansky-Kuster-Hauser syndrome and SERKAL syndrome.
