XPD는 DNA 손상 복구 메커니즘인 뉴클레오타이드 절제 복구 경로에 관여하는 단백질입니다. 이 유전자가 암호화하는 단백질은 전사 결합형 뉴클레오타이드 절제 복구에 관여하며, 기본 전사 인자 복합체 BTF2/TFIIH의 구성 요소입니다. 이 단백질은 ATP 의존적 DNA 헬리케이스 활성을 가지며 RAD3/XPD 서브패밀리에 속합니다.
이 유전자의 결함은 xeroderma pigmentosum 그룹 D, trichothiodystrophy, Cockayne 증후군과 같은 질환을 유발할 수 있습니다. 대체 스플라이싱된 전사체 변이체들이 보고되어 있습니다.
