Target Information
Protein disulfide isomerase (PDI) is a multifunctional protein that catalyzes the formation, breakage, and rearrangement of disulfide bonds.
At the cell surface, PDI acts as a reductase that cleaves disulfide bonds of proteins attached to the cell, potentially causing structural modifications.
Inside the cell, it forms or rearranges disulfide bonds of nascent proteins.
At high concentrations, PDI functions as a chaperone preventing aggregation of misfolded proteins, while at low concentrations, it facilitates aggregation (anti-chaperone activity).
PDI may also participate in structural modification of hormone precursors and act as a structural subunit of enzymes such as prolyl 4-hydroxylase and microsomal triacylglycerol transfer protein (MTTP).
It serves as a receptor for LGALS9, retaining P4HB at the cell surface of Th2 T helper cells and enhancing disulfide reductase activity, thereby influencing cell migration.
