Despite differing sequences and substrates, they share the canonical α/β hydrolase fold and a catalytic triad (histidine, acid, nucleophile). The ABHD (Ab hydrolase domain containing) gene subfamily comprises 15 members, most of which utilize a serine nucleophile forming the G-X-S-X-G motif. Examples include:
