Target Information

Isocitrate dehydrogenases catalyze the oxidative decarboxylation of isocitrate to 2-oxoglutarate. These enzymes belong to two distinct subclasses: NAD(+)-dependent and NADP(+)-dependent.
Five isocitrate dehydrogenases have been reported:

  • Three NAD(+)-dependent isocitrate dehydrogenases localized to the mitochondrial matrix
  • Two NADP(+)-dependent isocitrate dehydrogenases (one mitochondrial, one cytosolic)

The NADP(+)-dependent cytoplasmic isozyme encoded by this gene is found in cytoplasm and peroxisomes, containing a PTS-1 peroxisomal targeting signal sequence.
This enzyme contributes to NADPH regeneration for intraperoxisomal reductions and cytoplasmic NADPH production.
