Target Information
The ACTA1 gene encodes a member of the actin family of proteins, which are highly conserved and play essential roles in cell motility, structure, and integrity.
- Alpha actins are major components of the contractile apparatus in muscle.
- Beta and gamma actins regulate cell motility.
This particular actin isoform is found in skeletal muscle.
Mutations in ACTA1 are associated with various congenital myopathies, including: - Nemaline myopathy type 3
- Congenital myopathy with excess thin myofilaments
- Congenital myopathy with cores
- Congenital myopathy with fiber-type disproportion
