Target Information
Adrenergic receptors (ARs) belong to the 7-transmembrane domain G-protein-coupled receptor superfamily that bind endogenous catecholamines such as epinephrine and norepinephrine. Pharmacological, structural, and molecular cloning studies have identified nine receptor subtypes: three alpha-1 ARs (1A/D, 1B, 1C), three alpha-2 ARs (2A, 2B, 2C), and three beta ARs (1, 2, 3). These receptors are involved in the onset or maintenance of various disease states including hypertension, cardiac dysfunction (congestive heart failure, ischemia, arrhythmias), diabetes, glaucoma, depression, and impotence.
