Product Specific Information

SARS-CoV-2 (Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2), also known as 2019-nCoV, is a positive-sense single-stranded RNA virus that caused COVID-19. The virus contains a glycosylated spike (S) protein composed of S1 and S2 subunits. The S1 subunit includes a receptor-binding domain (RBD) that binds to the ACE2 receptor on target cells.

Target Information

SARS-CoV-2 (2019-nCoV) causes illnesses ranging from mild cold symptoms to severe respiratory distress and death. The spike (S) protein plays critical roles in viral attachment, fusion, and entry, serving as a key target for antibody, inhibitor, and vaccine development. The receptor-binding domain (RBD, S-RBD) of the spike protein binds strongly to ACE2 receptors in humans and bats, exhibiting higher affinity than SARS-CoV RBD.
The full-length SARS-CoV-2 spike protein is 1273 amino acids long, consisting of:

  • Signal peptide (1–13 aa)
  • S1 subunit (14–685 aa)
  • S2 subunit (686–1273 aa)

These regions are responsible for receptor binding and membrane fusion, respectively. The S-ECD denotes the extracellular domain of the spike protein.
