Target Information
The LBP (Lipopolysaccharide Binding Protein) is involved in the acute-phase immune response to gram-negative bacterial infections.
Gram-negative bacteria possess lipopolysaccharide (LPS) on their outer membrane. LBP binds to LPS and interacts with the CD14 receptor, regulating LPS-dependent monocyte responses.
LBP is part of a protein family including BPI, CETP, and PLTP. The gene encoding LBP is located on chromosome 20, downstream of the BPI gene.
