Target Information
Metadherin (Metastasis adhesion protein), also known as MTDH or LYRIC, is a novel protein that localizes with tight junction proteins ZO-1 and occludin in polarized epithelial cells. It is recruited during tight junction maturation rather than serving as a structural component.
Metadherin is overexpressed in breast cancer tissue and xenografts, whereas normal breast tissue shows low expression. It binds to lung vasculature, a common site of breast cancer metastasis, through a C-terminal extracellular domain segment. Antibody blocking or siRNA inhibition of metadherin has been reported to suppress breast cancer metastasis.
