Product Specific Information

PA1-933 detects parvalbumin protein in human and rat samples.
It has been successfully used in Western blot, ELISA, immunoprecipitation, and immunohistochemical procedures.
By Western blot, this antibody detects a 12 kDa parvalbumin protein from rat cerebellum.

Because parvalbumin is relatively small, electrophoresis should be performed using tricine-SDS-PAGE gels and transferred to a nylon membrane.
The immunizing protein corresponds to purified parvalbumin from rat skeletal muscle.
Reconstitute in 100 µL PBS to create a stock of 1 mg/mL.

Target Information

Parvalbumin (PV) is a calcium-binding protein expressed in specific muscle fibers and fast-firing neurons.
It belongs to the EF-hand protein family and plays a role in calcium decay during muscle contraction and relaxation cycles.
PV concentration correlates with the rate of muscle relaxation.
It is expressed in GABAergic interneurons that help maintain excitation/inhibition balance in the cortex and hippocampus.
In amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) patients, parvalbumin immunoreactivity is absent in neuron populations lost early in the disease.
