CELSR1은 cadherin superfamily의 flamingo 하위군에 속하는 단백질로, 비정형 cadherin으로 분류됩니다.
이 단백질은 세포막에 위치하며 9개의 cadherin 도메인, 7개의 EGF 유사 반복, 2개의 laminin A G형 반복을 가지고 있습니다.
또한 7개의 막관통 도메인을 포함하고 있어 이 하위군의 특징적인 구조를 보입니다.
CELSR1은 세포 간 접촉 매개 신호전달에 관여하는 수용체로 추정되며, cadherin 도메인은 동종 결합에, EGF 유사 도메인은 세포 부착 및 리간드 상호작용에 관여합니다.
이 유전자는 신경 특이적으로 발현되며, 초기 배아 발생 과정에서 중요한 역할을 하는 것으로 알려져 있습니다.
