Target Information

Ki-67 is a nuclear protein expressed during various stages of the cell cycle, notably in late G1, S, G2, and M phases. It associates with euchromatin and heterochromatin regions via its forkhead-associated (FHA) domain. Ki-67 expression varies throughout the cell cycle: perinucleolar in G1, nuclear matrix in G2, and chromosomal during M phase.
Because Ki-67 is absent in G0 cells and increases progressively through mitosis, it serves as a valuable marker for cellular proliferation. Ki-67 antibodies help determine the growth fraction in neoplasms, with prognostic value comparable to thymidine-labeling indices. Lower Ki-67 index correlates with low-grade tumors. It is also widely used as a neuronal marker of cell cycling and proliferation.
