Target Information
Heterotrimeric G proteins are membrane-bound GTPases linked to seven-transmembrane (7-TM) receptors. Each G protein comprises alpha, beta, and gamma subunits and is bound to GDP in the "off" state. Ligand–receptor binding activates the G protein, switching it to the "on" state and enabling Galpha activation of second messenger signaling cascades.
Galpha subtypes, such as Galphas and Galphai, directly interact with adenylyl cyclase to stimulate or inhibit its activity, resulting in increased or decreased cAMP levels, respectively.
