Target Information
Guanine nucleotide-binding proteins (G proteins) form a large family of signal-transducing molecules composed of alpha, beta, and gamma subunits. The alpha subunit binds guanine nucleotide, hydrolyzes GTP, and interacts with receptor and effector molecules. The G protein family includes:
- Gs and Gi: Regulators of adenylate cyclase (stimulatory and inhibitory)
- Go: Abundant in brain
- Transducin-1 and Transducin-2: Involved in phototransduction in retinal rods and cones
