Target Information
RYR3 is a ryanodine receptor that releases calcium from intracellular storage for use in various cellular processes. It plays a critical role in skeletal muscle contraction by releasing calcium from the sarcoplasmic reticulum upon T-tubule depolarization.
Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms of RYR3 have been identified.
RYR3 mediates calcium release into the cytoplasm, contributing to muscle contraction and cellular calcium ion homeostasis. It may also regulate calcium release from the endoplasmic reticulum in non-muscle cells.
Diseases associated with RYR3 include Central Core Disease and Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Dysplasia 2.
