CD79a는 B29(CD79b) 폴리펩타이드와 함께 이황화 결합된 이합체를 형성하며, 항원 특이적 면역글로불린(Ig)과 결합하여 B세포 항원 수용체 복합체를 구성합니다. 이는 B세포 수용체의 발현과 기능에 필수적입니다. CD79a는 pre-B 세포 단계에서 처음 발현되며, 형질세포 단계까지 존재합니다. 대부분의 전구 B세포형 급성 백혈병, B세포 림프종, 일부 골수종에서 발현되며, 골수성 또는 T세포 계열에서는 발현되지 않습니다. 관련 질환으로는 Agammaglobulinemia 3 및 비-Bruton형 Agammaglobulinemia가 있습니다.
