- Specificity: This antibody binds to the laterally exposed CD loop of CD28 and induces T cell proliferation without TCR ligation.
Target Information
CD28 antigen is a 44 kDa disulfide-linked homodimeric T cell-specific surface glycoprotein.
It is a cell adhesion molecule of the immunoglobulin superfamily, constitutively expressed on most peripheral blood T lymphocytes.
CD28 acts as a critical T cell costimulatory receptor by binding CD80 and CD86 on antigen-presenting cells, providing the essential second activation signal.
Additionally, CD28 prevents T cells from entering an anergic or apoptotic state.
In murine lymphoid organs and blood, all CD4+ and CD8+ T cells express CD28, with varying expression levels during thymocyte maturation.
Diseases associated with CD28 dysfunction include mycosis fungoides and Sezary’s disease.
