Target Information

CD30 (Ki-1, TNF Receptor Superfamily Member 8) is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein of the TNF receptor superfamily.
Originally identified as a surface antigen of Hodgkin and Reed-Sternberg cells, CD30 binds to CD30L (CD153) and mediates various cellular effects including proliferation, activation, differentiation, and apoptosis.
CD30 plays a critical role in the pathophysiology of Hodgkin’s disease and other CD30+ lymphomas, and acts as a costimulatory molecule in thymic negative selection.
Expression is found on Hodgkin’s and Reed-Sternberg cells, some non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas, virus-infected T/B cells, and activated normal T/B cells.
Soluble CD30 (sCD30) serves as a marker for Th2 immune response. TRAF2 and TRAF5 interact with CD30 to activate NF-κB signaling, regulating apoptosis and preventing autoimmunity.
Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been reported. CD30 is expressed by mononuclear cells in Hodgkin’s lymphoma, Reed-Sternberg cells, and most Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphomas (ALCL), as well as embryonal carcinomas.
