Target Information

Cytokine receptor signaling is negatively regulated by the SOCS (Suppressor of Cytokine Signaling) family, which includes eight members: SOCS1–7 and CIS. These proteins contain an N-terminal region, a central SH2 domain, and a C-terminal SOCS box motif. SOCS proteins function as part of a negative feedback loop that modulates cytokine signal transduction via STAT-induced transcriptional mechanisms. Expression of SOCS genes is rapidly induced by cytokines, and each member can inhibit signaling through distinct mechanisms.
