Kallikreins are a subgroup of serine proteases with diverse physiological functions. Many kallikreins are implicated in carcinogenesis and may serve as potential biomarkers for cancer and other diseases.
KLK8, one of fifteen kallikrein subfamily members on chromosome 19, may be involved in proteolytic cascades in the skin and serve as a biomarker for ovarian cancer.
Alternate splicing of this gene results in multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms.
