Product Specific Information
The monoclonal antibody DECMA-1 recognizes mouse, human, and canine CD324 (E-cadherin, also known as epithelial cadherin or uvomorulin). Like other cadherin family members (P- and N-cadherin), E-cadherin is a transmembrane glycoprotein involved in intercellular adhesion.
The extracellular domain contains repeating Ca²⁺-binding motifs, while the cytoplasmic domain interacts with α-, β-, and γ-catenins and actinins, linking E-cadherin to the cytoskeleton.
E-cadherin is expressed in most epidermal cells, localized at intercellular boundaries of epithelial tissues, and plays a key role in maintaining tissue integrity. Loss of E-cadherin function is associated with tumor progression in various cancers.
E-cadherin is sensitive to trypsin treatment; exposure should be minimized or avoided.
The DECMA-1 antibody disrupts adhesion in human, mouse, and dog cells.
Reported applications include flow cytometry, immunoprecipitation, western blotting, immunohistochemistry (frozen sections), and ELISA. For functional assays, use the Functional Grade purified DECMA-1 (Product #16-3249-85).

Target Information
E-Cadherin (epithelial cadherin) is a classical cadherin belonging to the calcium-dependent adhesion protein superfamily. It is a cell-cell adhesion glycoprotein with five extracellular cadherin repeats, a transmembrane region, and a conserved cytoplasmic tail.
Mutations in E-cadherin are linked to gastric, breast, colorectal, thyroid, and ovarian cancers. Loss of function contributes to tumor progression by enhancing proliferation, invasion, and metastasis.
The ectodomain mediates bacterial adhesion, while the cytoplasmic domain is required for internalization.
E-cadherin is encoded by the CDH1 gene on chromosome 16. Reduced expression correlates with increased tumor invasiveness and metastasis potential.
