Target Information
DNA fragmentation is a critical step in apoptosis, induced by DNA fragmentation factor (DFF). DFF consists of two subunits: DFF40 (a caspase-activated nuclease) and DFF45 (an inhibitor). A novel family of DFF45-like effectors, known as CIDEs, has been identified.
Human CIDE-3 is a new member of this family, with two transcripts (CIDE-3 and CIDE-3α) found in HepG2 and A375 cells. Located on chromosome 3p25—a region often showing loss of heterozygosity in tumors—CIDE-3 may play a key role in tumorigenesis prevention.
