Product Specific Information
Description:
The RPA-T4 monoclonal antibody reacts with human CD4, a 59 kDa cell surface receptor expressed by most thymocytes, a subpopulation of mature T cells (T-helper cells), and at low levels on monocytes. CD4 serves as a receptor for the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). RPA-T4 blocks HIV binding and mixed lymphocyte reaction. It recognizes a different epitope than the OKT4 antibody, and these antibodies do not cross-block each other.

Applications Tested:
- Pre-titrated and tested by flow cytometric analysis of normal human peripheral blood cells.
- Recommended usage: 5 µL (1 µg) per test in a final volume of 100 µL.
- Cell number: 10⁵–10⁸ cells/test (empirically determined).

Target Information
The CD4 antigen is involved in recognition of MHC class II molecules and functions as a co-receptor for HIV. It is primarily expressed on T-helper lymphocytes but also found on monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells. CD4 expression can be detected in thymus, lymph nodes, tonsils, spleen, and certain regions of the brain and gut. It plays a key role in initiating T-cell activation via association with the T-cell receptor complex and protein tyrosine kinase Lck. CD4 may also contribute to neuronal damage in infectious and immune-mediated CNS diseases. Multiple alternatively spliced transcripts have been identified (RefSeq, July 2017).
