Product Specific Information

Description:
The OKT4 monoclonal antibody reacts with human CD4, a 59 kDa cell surface glycoprotein expressed by most thymocytes, a subset of mature T-helper cells, and at low levels on monocytes. CD4 acts as a receptor for HIV. The OKT4 antibody recognizes a distinct epitope from the RPA-T4 antibody, and these do not cross-block each other.

Applications Reported:
This OKT4 (OKT-4) antibody is reported for use in flow cytometric analysis.

Applications Tested:
Tested by flow cytometric analysis of normal human peripheral blood cells. Recommended ≤0.5 µg per test (in 100 µL final volume). Cell count may range from 10⁵ to 10⁸ cells/test. Antibody titration is advised for optimal performance.

Target Information

CD4 antigen is involved in recognition of MHC class II molecules and serves as a co-receptor for HIV. It is primarily expressed in T-helper cells, and also in monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells. Tissue expression includes thymus, lymph nodes, tonsils, spleen, and certain brain and gut regions. CD4 aids early T-cell activation via association with the T-cell receptor complex and Lck kinase, and may mediate neuronal damage in immune-related CNS diseases. Multiple alternatively spliced transcripts are known (RefSeq, July 2017).
