Target Information
Nuclear factor of activated T-cells (NFAT) is a transcription factor required for T-cell expression of the interleukin 2 gene. NFAT binds to the antigen receptor response element 2 in the IL-2 gene enhancer. It can also bind RNA and plays an essential role in encapsidation and protein priming of hepatitis B viral polymerase. NFAT forms a heterodimer of 45 kDa and 90 kDa proteins, with the smaller being the product of this gene. The encoded protein interacts strongly with the 90 kDa protein and enhances its gene expression activity.
