Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is a cytokine that acts as a regulator of various hematopoietic cells. It stimulates cell proliferation and prevents apoptosis through the interleukin 9 receptor (IL9R), activating STAT proteins and linking this cytokine to multiple biological processes. The gene has been identified as a candidate for asthma, and studies in mouse models suggest its role in bronchial hyperresponsiveness.
