Target Information
Beta Galactosidase (GLB1) encodes a member of the glycosyl hydrolase 35 family.
Alternative splicing produces multiple transcript variants, including one encoding a preproprotein that is processed into the mature lysosomal enzyme.
This enzyme catalyzes hydrolysis of terminal β-linked galactose residues from gangliosides and other glycoconjugates.
Mutations in GLB1 are associated with GM1-gangliosidosis and Morquio B syndrome.
