Target Information
This gene encodes a hematopoietin/interferon-class receptor belonging to the cytokine superfamily. The CNTFR gene product represents the CNTF-specific alpha subunit of a heterotrimeric receptor complex, which also includes LIFR and gp130. The receptor is membrane-bound via a glycosyl-phosphatidylinositol linkage and contains an immunoglobulin-like C2-type domain and a fibronectin type-III domain. Signal transduction requires CNTF binding to this alpha component, enabling recruitment of gp130 and LIFR beta to form the tripartite complex. This signaling promotes gene expression, cell survival, and differentiation in various neuronal cell types. Alternative splicing produces two variants encoding the same protein.
