Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene hydrolyzes cerebroside sulfate to cerebroside and sulfate. Defects in this gene lead to metachromatic leucodystrophy, a progressive demyelination disease causing neurological symptoms and ultimately death. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described for this gene.
